Time Travel
I had the good fortune to travel to Ireland again this fall, where I visited ancient sites and imagined what it was like during days of towers and stone. This is time travel, of a sort. In new (or old) surroundings, we can try to envision a different point of view, a different era. To read more about this trip, please find my article ("How Time Changes When You Travel") here.
In December, I tend to feel wary about the passage of time. Did I do enough? Did I cross all items off my list for the year? What's to come in the months ahead? I prefer to focus on what made me feel most present.
Writing exercise: Recall one of your favorite days from 2017. Where were you? Who were you with? What sights, smells, sounds, tastes and sensations can you describe from this day? Be honest, be messy, and make as many smudges as you want. Give yourself 10 minutes or so to freewrite. If 10 minutes turns into 20, so be it.
