Managing the Whale
 

It was a joy to present my writing workshop at Herman Melville's Arrowhead (Pittsfield, MA) in April. I tried to imagine the writer at his desk as he composed MOBY DICK. I assume, like most of us, he had to think small to get the job done. Not the whole beast at once but one sentence, then the next.

May writing prompt
Write just one sentence. Begin with this: "Today at my desk I am..." (A captain? A rebel? A poet? Choose anything you want.) May this one sentence lead to the next.
