I’m a devout fan of musical theater, as mentioned a few weeks ago. When I lived in New York City I went as often as I could afford to. I stood in line at the TKTS booth and bothered a generous friend who served as dresser for Patti LuPone. When my mother came to visit, we’d sometimes see a matinee and an evening performance in the same day. Like champagne and chocolate at once. Almost too much to digest.
Now I live in the Berkshires, an artsy haven to be sure, but one that’s short on theaters that stage musicals exclusively. I jumped at the chance to see a recent matinee: Waitress in HD. I knew Sara Bareilles was the mastermind, that pies were involved. But other than that, I went in blindly.
